Personal Interests After Discovery
Museum of Fine Arts- Boston, MA
Taking a field trip to a museum sounded great, day out of school to look at art work with my classmates. Going to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston I wasn’t expecting to be so interested in the way some one the works were made. The pieces that caught my eye were the pottery and how they made the clay and the amount of time it took them to do so. I liked the different styles from different countries. The image seen called Pottery Factory, Keneh by J.P. Séban. This photograph inspired me to learn more about ceramics and how the clay is actually help together for bigger objects. There was a computer system that explained the making and process of ceramics. I watched 3 videos out of 5 and was very interested. This made me think about using ceramics for my final. I liked the process of making the clay and the amount of time it actually takes to make. The amount of time it has to sit before you can use it and how they find it in their countries. The glazed stoneware caught my eye also with the figures and colors of every piece it was a unique area that was interesting to me. A particular piece that I was interested in out of the glazed stoneware was the Stoneware Lamp with Celadon Glaze. The detail of the figure was making me think about how it is possible to get something big like that to stay put. This was made out of stoneware and yue ware and is in the collection of Asia. For my final project in art I would like to put these interests into a dish that can potentially be used to hold jewelry.

Final Project June 2015
I grew up in the woods, on a farm in a very small town. The agricultural perspective of today's age is decreasing more and more everyday. Not a lot of people grow their own crops they just buy them loaded with preservatives. Going to the MFA there was a question on our sheets about childhood. Coming to the end of our field trip I had nothing for my childhood question. I went into a room full of animals and agriculture and it was like walking through my great grandmothers old house. This was the answer to my final question at the Museum. For my final I have rock walls representing the old small town that has rock walls to divide every property line. The water lands and streams that the cows got to drink out of. The barn that represents the barn in my backyard today which is a wooden red barn. Sandpaper for the chicken and pig pens to represent the dirt they make after digging it up for food. The pig pen has a water/dirt pit for them to roll in which we have on my farm. There is a truck and a tractor in the front of the barn representing the road to get there and what we drive. I chose to do my final in 3D to show the detail in the barn and to show each point of how our backyard is arranged. The grass is done out of green felt paper. The barn and fence out of Popsicle sticks that were spray painted. The water was done with blue paint and put together with clear hot glue. Everything on the wooden board was glued on with clear or black hot glue. The black was used as an extra color to make the barn stand out and also make the pig pens mud pit look even more dirty. The project took countless hours after school between spray painting and glueing all items.

Midterm January 2016
Pollution is a very big issue that continues to grow every day in this world. Some artists started to realize the issue and make artwork out of it to make others aware of the pollution and the harm it could be doing to the environment. Instead of allowing the trash to sit out in the environment and pollute it artists took it to their advantages to make artwork such as sculptures, paintings, pictures etc.
One artist while venturing on the beach Durán grabs plastic trash that has washed up onto the shore of Sian Ka’an. Sian ka’an is Mexico’s largest federally protected reserve. Even being protected reserve pollution washes up onto shores around the world inspiring Durán to design environmental pieces for her artwork. Environmental art pieces made out of plastic washed up on shore taken in videos and photos by Durán.
Artist two started in 2008 with a friend bored and decided to stack rocks. Instantly hooked on the look he began to take as much free time as he had to go to the creek and stack rocks. Rock balancing was a way for him to spend free time and also therapeutically balance out his life. Became a full time job around the age of 30 and now from noon to sunset daily working around or in the Boulder Creek he stacks the rocks that catches his eye first and meditates. Some stacks take minutes some could take hours depending on size of rocks, shape of rocks, weather, and what catches his eye.
This artistic midterm was to target the arts of pollution and how artists use it to make a point or start a movement to prevent it from become extremely bad. Pollution is when the air, land, water, etc. is full of trash and things that do not belong in a certain spot. Pollution is bad for animals if they eat it, it could be toxic or harmful and kill them. About 34% is actually recycled but the rest is polluting the world and harming our environment. “The Mississippi River dumps 1.5 million metric tonnes of nitrogen pollution into the Gulf of Mexico every year.”

RISD Reflection
The Cylindrical Vessel inspired me the most from RISD. The Artist is unknown and it was made between 2920-2150 BCE out of Travertine. The theme is even back then people they used cups and actually had to make their own. They didn’t have stores to go buy them or couldn’t afford to do that. The artist used earthenware to make a cup with beautiful designs. I wasn’t able to attend the field trip but I would have loved to be there. The virtual museum was great, but being able to see the pieces in person with better lighting and quality would have been good. This is all I have for you thank you for your time. |
